Connie Gichia is a trained and practicing pharmacist. But when not busy receiving prescriptions and handing to customers the prescribed medicine, she gets down to earth to plough, plant and nature crops. She is simply, a pharmacist with green fingers
However, that has not always been the case. She practiced pharmacy while yearning to get her hands soiled, put seed in the soil and proudly watch the you plant emerge. For sometime, this remained a bare dream since where she lived was a literal concrete jungle.
There was no space for farming of any kind.
Matters took a positive trn in November 2009.
That month, she nad her husband Titus Gichia moved into a bungalow with a spacious compound just outside ongata rongai town center. A member of the Kenya Womens Finance Trust – Deposit Taking Microfinance (KWFT-DTM) for two years, things fell in place within weeks of moving to the new place. KWFT-DTM not only provided her with the financing she required to make her dream a reality, it is also the institution that introduced her to green farming. |
